Innovative solutions for Steel Service Centers

Steel Service Centers

Preprocessing steel with Voortman equipment

The traditional role for stockholders had been one of buying in large quantities from the mills, stocking and distributing in smaller quantities to the end-user. Today stockholders have increased their investment in equipment for cutting, sawing, drilling, shot blasting and painting systems so as to provide “Added Value” processing to all orders. This has now established firmly the role of the Steel Service Center, with Voortman being at the forefront of this changing market.

Reduction and elimination of costs

Steel Service Centers are often asked to preprocess the steel. This preprocessing involves operations such as sawing, cutting, drilling, shot blasting and painting. This reduces or eliminates the need for manufacturers to tie up capital in inventory, pre-processing equipment, processing personnel and transport trucks.

Voortman has developed machinery specifically to cover all aspects of the Steel Stockholder and Service Center market. Our extensive range of equipment guarantees we can provide the right solution for every application. Voortman can provide fully automated production lines, allowing multiple operations in a production system to be performed by only one operator.

Software

All Voortman machines are provided with the Voortman VACAM control software. All the production information is imported into the central database of VACAM. The VACAM software not only enables the operators to visually follow in real time the production progress, but also the production management from an office desktop.

Production Data Exporter

During the production process all data will be logged in the SQL production database. In this way global known ERP systems are able to approach the database to extract any required data for further ERP use. Also with the Voortman Production Data Exporter (PDE) information can be extracted from the production database to generate reports. These reports supply stock holders and steel service centers very valuable information such as produced tonnages, the amount of cuts and holes, cutting times, drilling times, shot blast and painting square meters, etc. With this readily accessible online data it is much easier to make accurate calculations. Data from the production database can also be loaded into OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) software to analyze production losses.
