Despite the good production planning at Thircon, there were some bottle-necks in their production process. After a thorough study it was clear that the saw capacity was insufficient and that the production of fittings was inadequate compared to the rest of the production.
Mr Steve Nicholson, Manager: "We evaluated all the possible machines on the market and decided that investing in a new band saw and a new punching/shearing system from Voortman would be the solution for our problems. The Voortman VB750 bandsaw and the V550-4 punching/shearing system fitted in to our factory layout best. Not only this we invested in ten Voortman suspension systems used to suspend welding equipment overhead. By using these support systems it's much easier for the welder to move around long beams and large fabrications. This saves a lot of production time."
Steve Nicholson: "After installation of both systems it was clear that we had brought much more flexibility into our production process. This came from both the saw capacity and the production capacity of fittings, both increased enormously. Not only this, we are also very satisfied with service, back-up and the excellent cooperation between Voortman and Thircon. Every question or request is handled and solved quickly and effectively."
Thircon Ltd. has a production facility of 5.500 sqm. The company is located in Thirsk, close to the A1, which gives good access to all major UK road network systems. Thircon specializes in the design, detailing, fabrication, painting and erection of structural steelwork for many different sectors. With 50 employees Thircon processes approx. 7.000 tonnes steel per annum.
