The Vollack-Group in Germany currently has ten daughter companies active in the building and construction sectors. The target market for Vollack is Germany using the unique, yet tried and tested Vollack 4-Phasen-Methode®, Vollack is able to manage approx. 100 projects a year. The processing and fabrication is carried out in two locations, Karlsruhe and Mihla. These two sites prior to the investment in Voortman equipment processed approx. 10.000 tonnes steel per year.
In 2007 it was decided to evaluate and re-organize the production process. The pre-frabricaton, sawing/drilling, plate and angle processing is performed at the Karlsruhe location. In Mihla the Karlsruhe produced construction parts are fabricated, provided with a coating and transported to the construction site. After evaluating what equipment was now available on the market to best served the needs of Vollack it was decided to replace the old sawing and drilling system with a Voortman system at the Karlsruhe facility.
Mr. Kraft, Plant Manager said "With our new production goals and technology requirements the capacity of our old sawing and drilling system was no longer sufficient to meet our needs. Also the dated technology led to considerable down time."
To achieve our new production target and still leave capacity for the future it was decided to install the sawing and drilling systems in a separate configuration. Vollack GmbH looked for a machine supplier who could deliver a system that had a proven track record in the automation of the entire process, including material handling. After a thorough analysis of the market, Voortman convinced Vollack with its proposal and capabilities the new sawing and drilling system would best suit their needs.
Mr. Kraft: "As a result of the Voortman design and layout the V630M drilling system and VB1250 mitre cutting band saw are installed separately, it is possible to drill and saw simultaneously. With this configuration of the machines the required production capacity is easily achieved." The machines are interfaced together by automated cross transports and roller conveyors. This configuration now reduces the labor requirement and needs only one operator to control the complete sawing and drilling system resulting in cost and time savings."
With simultaneous drilling and sawing the capacity has been increased enormously. Mr. Kraft "In addition to the previously mentioned facts, there were another three reasons to invest in a Voortman. Firstly, we very much appreciated the level of innovation and technology of the Voortman machines. Second, we received an excellent presentation combined with competitive price/performance offer. Finally, Voortman uses readily available locally sourced components, such as Bosch Rexroth for both the drives and hydraulic systems."
Mr. Kraft "We greatly appreciate the relationship we have built with the Voortman organization. This co-operation has translated into alll of our requirements and ideas being met and built into an efficient production line. We never had to wait for anwers. Voortman has a reliable and efficient service support. In short: professional people!"
