For controlling multiple machines in one production system, Voortman uses “Multi System Integration” (MSI). This integration is part of the VACAM control software, which means that various machines and their handling systems are module-wise seamless implemented in the control, like they are real configured in your layout. With only a mouse-click, future machines can be easily added, converted or changed.

The core advantage of a Multi System is that several different operations can be done simultaneously. This increases the productivity highly while man-hours are being saved. The whole system is equipped with additional detection and sensors, to monitor every operation and motion, resulting in full buffer control. This enables Voortman to operate the system with only one operator for several connected machines.
More advantages
- Production data is logged and saved, which is important for the feedback to a company’s ERP system. It gives maximum opportunities for future production scheduling, cost estimation, just in time deliveries and other solutions which needs data sharing with any ERP system.
- For optimizing speed and productivity it is possible to divide the buffers into length sections, so products are stocked in the buffer in tandem. In this way the full use of the buffers is guaranteed.
- VACAM also uses a “load balancing” algorithm, to prevent that the buffer at a certain production machine runs full. If there are for example two saws available in the production line, the VACAM software will reroute material in order to distribute the workload evenly.
- Products are transported and machined automatically without any manual intervention.
- The whole system is monitored by the operator via a graphical overview on-screen.
- In case of eventualities, several manual panels and in some cases remote controls can overrule the automatic mode temporarily, after which the automatic mode takes over again.
- The same panels are used to select the required product data on each loading position. On the outfeed positions, product information is shown and it is possible to remove unloaded products from the buffer.
- To ensure a logistic correct solution, the system configuration or layout can be designed according clients wishes or available workspace, by example in a U- or Z configuration or a mix of the latter.
