Shearing is a cost-effective process with an inferior cutting quality when compared with other cutting processes (thermal cutting, sawing). Shearing processes can be divided in double cut and single cut shearing processes. Voortman offers both.
A double cut shear has one upper blade and two lower blades. The two lower blades act like a die while the upper blade creates a material loss equal to the thickness of the upper blade. Material loss is higher with a double cut shear but the power required and the material distortion is less. A single cut shear uses one movable upper blade and one lower fixed blade. To perform a single cut relatively more power is required but no material loss will occur.
All Voortman flat shears work according the single cut principle which reduces material loss to zero. Hydraulics for maximum pressure and flow are equipped to ensure a faster shearing process. The upper shear inclination is reduced to a minimum to minimize material distortion and to reduce the shearing stroke. The shear has four usable sides to reduce consumable costs.
Angle shears are available according to the double cut principle and according to the single cut principle. The V550-6 is equipped with a double cut angle shear while the V505 is equipped with a single cut angle shear which is also able to cut flat bar. The upper shear inclination is reduced to a minimum to minimize material distortion. All four sides of the single cut shearing blade can be used for cutting. Each having a different radius of 6, 9, 12 and 15 mm (1/4", 3/8", 1/2" and 5/8") to ensure a perfect quality cut for various profiles.
