DEMO - V631: Flange removal with radius
Watch the video or continue reading to see how the V631 mills a double block out with radius in a 20 mm HEA140 profile.
The V631 can perform demanding flange removal operations where large amounts of material need to be removed. In this example, the machine mills a double block out in 20 mm thick material. Using a 1:1 depth-to-diameter ratio, the axial depth of cut equals the tool diameter, allowing the V631 to remove the material in a deep cut.
To finish the block out with a radius, the V631 uses a ball-nose cutter. Unlike a standard end mill, which produces sharp internal corners, the rounded cutting edge of the ball-nose tool creates the required curved profile.
This combination of deep material removal and radius machining allows complex flange features to be produced directly on the V631.
