In 2009 United Structural Works embarked on their expansion, building a new facility on a green field site in Congers, Rockland County, New York. United Structural Works now prides its self on being a state of the art facility with a 60,000 square feet fabrication plant.

The choice for Voortman

The choice for Voortman equipment was made for many reasons, the primary one being the capability and experience of the Voortman team to assist us in the design of our new facility and the placing of the equipment to insure maximum productivity and minimal manual material handling. “The system was installed in May 2010 for our first job which required 2000 tons to be fabricated in 9 weeks”, Mr. Cormach O'Muirithe explains."This may not seem much to some larger fabricators, but it was a 100% growth from our previous year’s total output in the old facility. The job went without a hitch; of course there was a learning curve that was expected coming from the switch from a manual to a CNC system. Fortunately Voortman USA was there to help with training and assistance every step of the way”.

Expanding operations

The company has expanded its operations due to the capital investment in its equipment and property. Mr. O’Muirithe comments: “In New York word travels very fast and through the relationships we have, many people know what our capabilities are. Upon a tour of the facility and a first-hand look of the Voortman equipment, I am confident that no owner/GC/CM would not offer a job based on the performance of Voortman. From the minute the approved shop drawings are received at our offices, we immediately start the fabrication process. Our shop manager starts the process with material procurement and importing DSTV files into our Voortman equipment. Our Voortman V613/ VB1050 drilling and sawing system makes the most difficult projects with the highest accuracy ensuring zero down-time in the field”. One of the projects that prove the capabilities of United Structural Works is the Jacob Javits Convention Centre in New York.
