The Voortman Software development team is constantly working on improving VACAM (Voortman Automatisering Computer Aided Manufacturing). The object of these improvements is to increase the production process and machine efficiency levels. Some of the latest developments are the production database and database replication, also Voortman has added some small very useful features to VACAM.
Production database
A new addition to the Voortman VACAM software is a production database; in this various production data is saved. With the program, which is included in VACAM, it is possible to generate several production reports from the database. These reports can be generated on three levels: project summary, machining processes and tonnage. The content of these reports is easily configurable. In fact, a production database is essential for every structural steel builder who wants to make his pre-calculation and subsequent calculations as exact as possible. Of course it is also possible to approach the production database with a self developed application so that it is possible to exchange data directly with for example a MRP package. For this purpose Voortman has included an API (Application Programming Interface) for carrying this out.
Replication
When the company network is unreliable and or cannot communicate (because of overload or noise etc), it can happen that also the production system will stand still because it is not able to download the product information from another PC/database in the network. In order to increase the uptime of the production system, Voortman applies the principle of database replication. This means that the required information in the workstations database is copied to the machine database. In case of an interruption in the network connection, the machine can continue its production.
Product dimensions
An application much asked for by our customers was the representation of the various product dimensions in the product screen. Voortman started working on this and in the latest VACAM version it is possible to show and prints not only distance values but also angle values.
