THE CHALLENGE
As the demands of the market evolved, RadøyGruppen faced a familiar challenge: increasing efficiency without sacrificing quality. “We fabricate unique structures for every project. That makes automation difficult,” said Lasse Ståløy, part-owner and CEO. “But to stay competitive, we needed to reduce manual hours and streamline repetitive tasks.”
ABOUT THE COMPANY
RadøyGruppen, a family-owned steel fabrication company based in western Norway, specializes in complex steel structures for the oil, gas, and renewable sectors. With over 100 employees and additional contractors depending on project size, the company delivers fully assembled, painted, and welded modules ready for offshore installation.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT PARTNER
RadøyGruppen first invested in the Voortman V808 in 2015. The machine served them well for many years, contributing to more efficient fabrication. When the time came to expand capabilities and benefit from newer software and features, they turned once again to Voortman and selected the V807.
“We chose Voortman again because they offered a newer machine with much better features, and we didn’t need to replace the whole conveyor setup,” said Håvar Soltveit, Foreman Fabrication. “The transition was straightforward and smart.”

The upgrade process exceeded expectations. “With the first machine, training and setup took longer than planned. This time, the V807 was up and running within a couple of months,” said Ståløy. “The new software was easier to use, and the support team was excellent.
“We were up and running within the planned time. The software was easy to learn, and the service team supported us exactly when we needed them. It exceeded our expectations.”

RadøyGruppen opted for Voortman’s Red Label service plan, ensuring minimal downtime. “If anything goes wrong, Voortman will be on-site within 72 hours. That’s crucial for a machine that handles so much of our prefabrication,” Soltveit noted.
LOOKING AHEAD
With the V807 performing strongly, RadøyGruppen plans to standardize more of its factory on Voortman software. “We’re aiming to automate more areas over the next few years,” said Soltveit. “Having consistent software means easier training, better uptime, and smoother operations.”
