Fiber laser cutting - 5 ways to boost your output with the V353
The Voortman V353 is built for steel processors who want more output with less manual work. Its cutting power, automation features and long‑format plate handling all work together to keep the machine cutting and your production moving.
Below are the five ways the V353 increases real‑world output: automation, load balancing, high‑power cutting, weld‑ready part quality and safe, continuous operation.
THE V353 AT A GLANCE
- Modular cutting bed: 12 - 36 m (40 -120 ft)
- Handles 3 x 6 m (10 x 20 ft) plates
- Cuts up to 75 mm (3 in.) plate thickness
- Laser power options: 15 kW or 40 kW
- Fully enclosed moving gantry with 45° bevel capability
1. PERFORMANCE & AUTOMATION
HIGH-SPEED CUTTING CYCLES
The V353 delivers fast, stable fiber‑laser cutting with speeds up to 140 m/min (460 ft/min). Thick‑plate holes burn through in seconds, edges remain sharp, and the gantry accelerates rapidly between contours. The result is shorter cycle times and increased output per shift.
CONTINUOUS PROCESSING
A modular cutting bed ranging from 12–36 m (40–120 ft) supports continuous processing of large or multiple plates in a single setup. This extended area also functions as a natural buffer: while one section of the bed is being unloaded, the gantry continues cutting the next plate. The result is steady machine activity with fewer interruptions caused by uneven job lengths or manual handling delays.
24/7 THROUGHPUT
Automation supports long, uninterrupted production runs. A 24‑position automatic nozzle changer, integrated plate measurement and job buffering enable the V353 to process varying materials and thicknesses autonomously. Overnight operation produces weld‑ready parts without manual oversight.
2. LOAD BALANCING
Different nests finish at different speeds, which often causes idle moments in plate processing. Short nests may complete quickly, while thicker material takes longer. The V353 stabilizes this workflow by allowing cutting and unloading to operate independently, so production keeps moving even when job times vary.
The machine’s design reduces delays caused by handling, repositioning and temporary storage. Finished parts remain in place until the next production step is ready, maintaining a more continuous pace.
This creates steadier output into later production steps through:
- Fewer handling interruptions, since finished parts do not need immediate removal
- Smoother transitions between short and long cutting jobs
- More predictable timing for welding, machining or assembly
3. CUTTING POWER
15 KW: GREAT PERFORMANCE ON STANDARD PLATES
The 15 kW configuration delivers strong results on commonly processed thicknesses. On 12 mm (½ in.) mild steel, cutting speeds are already more than three times faster than plasma, producing clean, weld‑ready edges with minimal finishing.
40 KW: BEST FOR HEAVY PLATES
The 40 kW option increases feed rates on 25–50 mm (1–2 in.) mild steel and maintains a fully molten kerf up to 25 mm (1 in.), creating smooth, oxidation‑free edges. More power shortens pierce time, stabilizes the cut, lowers heat transfer into the slats, and reduces wear on the cutting bed. These factors combine to increase output and cut quality for heavy plates. The V353 with 40 kW cuts material up to 75 mm (3 in.) without compromising quality.
4. EVERY PLATE A SELLABLE PART
CLEAN EDGES
The V353 produces precise straight and bevel cuts, even through 50 mm (2 in.) material. Edges come off the table clean and within tolerance, reducing the need for grinding, re‑cuts or secondary drilling.
FIRST TIME RIGHT
Stable cutting behavior allows plates to be completed in a single pass, minimizing quality checks and manual corrections. With fewer interruptions, more material becomes finished product on the first attempt.
COMMON CUT
Excellent perpendicularity enables common‑cut paths, increasing the number of usable parts per plate and lowering scrap. This improves overall plate utilization and helps push more output through the same amount of material.
5. SAFETY
SAFE MOVEMENTS
The V353’s enclosed gantry moves rapidly across a 3 × 6 m (10 × 20 ft) plate, making operator protection essential. Multi‑zone laser scanners secure the working area with an outer warning zone and an inner hard‑stop zone. If the protected zone is entered, cutting stops instantly and the gantry parks safely.
FAST RECOVERY
Once the area is clear, the system resumes automatically. The built‑in Resume Cutting function returns the head to the exact pierce point and completes the contour without leaving a mark. This reduces unnecessary rework and maintains cut quality.
CUT OVERNIGHT
Overnight, the V353 continues production autonomously. By the start of the day, the cutting table is filled with completed parts and the next jobs are already queued. This provides a head start for the shift and keeps production moving from the first minute.
