MORSINK CONSTRUCTIE - How XR technology from Voortman enables error-free assembly
“We're a small company, but XR helps us work almost faultlessly. It saves time, improves quality, and you don't have to rely on just one person to do all the checks.”

THE CHALLENGE
Like many in the steel construction industry, Morsink faced ongoing challenges with staff turnover. “We now have a strong team in place,” says Erik, “but it can still be tough to find the right people in the right numbers when needed.” The issue wasn’t just filling roles, it was about finding skilled workers who could quickly adapt to the fast-paced, precision-focused workflow on the shop floor." With a team fluctuating between 23 and 25 people, many of them temporary, maintaining high quality without constant oversight was increasingly difficult.
“We’ve seen good people come and go,” Erik continues. “And training new ones over and over again slows everything down. I had to check everything myself - but I’m just human too, and a mistake is easily made.”
ABOUT THE COMPANY
Morsink Constructie is a steel construction firm in Enter, the Netherlands. With 25 staff and over 20 years of experience, they deliver structural, stainless, and aluminum work from a 2,000 m² (21,500 ft²) workshop. Serving both contractors and direct clients, they focus on custom quality and reliable delivery. Always on the lookout for innovation and automation, Morsink aims to meet growing demand without expanding its workforce.

INTRODUCING XR: AUGMENTED REALITY
Morsink had already taken big steps toward automation with Voortman machinery. Their workshop features a Voortman V630 drill line, a VB1050 saw, the V310 plasma cutting system with drilling capability, and the V550-7 punching and shearing line. These upgrades enabled overnight operation. “That new plasma runs mainly at night,” says Erik. “The guys load the plates in the evening, and the machine does the rest.”
When Voortman introduced the XR augmented reality headset, Morsink quickly saw its potential for quality control. Already impressed by the machines’ reliability, they integrated XR smoothly into their workflow. “We were one of the first to try it,” Erik explains. “Voortman helped us set it up, and it immediately made sense."

JUST FOLLOW THE VISUAL MARKERS
Unlike the traditional process, which involved checking dimensions manually with a tape measure, the XR offers a fast, accurate, and visual way to confirm component positioning. Even really complex builds benefitted. "We had columns with angled assemblies - really tricky stuff," he explained. "But with the XR we could inspect everything outside, - even in sunlight. Amazing how precise it is."
The process begins in the office, where Erik selects the project phase and uploads it to the XR system. On the shop floor, he connects the headset, sets a reference point on the beam, and walks along the structure. The model overlays directly onto the real part, showing exactly where each element should go. “You lay the beam down, align it, and just follow the visual markers. It’s clear and efficient.”
Beyond the visual clarity, XR has also made quality control more scalable. “Now, I’m not the only one who can do it,” Erik explains. “If I’m sick or busy, someone else can pick it up.”
“Voortman is always a step ahead, especially when it comes to automation. And we like being part of that.”

YOU REALLY CATCH EVERYTHING
The real benefit comes in fewer mistakes. "Parts sometimes come back from the construction site. Wrong placement, misaligned parts. Now, those issues are way down. We catch it all before it leaves the shop."
Errors that slip through can be costly. "If you’ve got to redo something on-site, it’s hours of travel, crane time, and lost productivity. One mistake can easily add up costs fast."
They were already making extensive use of layout marking, with outlines for secondary parts like fittings clearly marked on beams and plates. "That alone already helps a lot to reduce mistakes," Erik notes. "With XR on top of that, you really catch everything".
